Chadlington sees 511% surge in searches thanks to ‘Clarkson’s Farm’ series

  • According to property search portal Rightmove, the 511% uplift in sale searches in Chadlington, Chipping Norton, occurred in June 2021, when compared to June 2020

Searches for homes to buy in the Cotswold village of Chadlington increased by 511% in June, as viewers tuned in to Jeremy Clarkson’s Amazon Prime documentary series.

Clarkson’s Farm at the start of the month, according to new data out today from the UK’s biggest property website Rightmove.

Just a few miles from the popular market town of Chipping Norton, Chadlington recorded a bigger surge in interest than anywhere else in Great Britain in June 2021, when compared to the same period in 2020, as viewers captivated by the local countryside looked at homes for sale in and around the area where the show is filmed.

The rise is three times higher than the next biggest spike, which was recorded in the village of Cardross, Dumbarton, which saw a 157% increase in home searches in June 2021, compared to June 2020.

Chipping Norton itself saw a 64% increase in sale searches following increasing interest from home movers looking to relocate to countryside towns and villages.

The average price of a property in Chipping Norton is £358,292, while average asking rent is £1204 pcm.

Rightmove’s Director of Property Data Tim Bannister said: “We’ve known for a while now the impact a new TV show can have on home-hunters’ searches, and it is really interesting to see how Clarkson’s Farm has captured the imagination of those considering the life that could be in the Cotswolds. Many people will have watched Jeremy’s journey to discovering life on a farm in Chadlington, and then looked to see properties available in the area, contributing to a spike. With the number of places to discover, and areas of natural beauty to explore in the Cotswolds, its easy to see why the show has sparked so much interest in nearby areas.”
